Gyakuten Saiban: Tonosamanslaughter (2016) – Episode 7

I’m a hopeless enough AA fan to unironically enjoy this anime, but I still wouldn’t say it’s good enough to stand on its own.

But this episode did some interesting things this series should do more of.

I like that Kyuuta/Cody didn’t testify and instead did this then got dragged out by the bailiffs.

[2nd screenshot note: “正義のみかた何だろう”, roughly “Isn’t that what an ally of justice (does)?” Superheroes are translated as “allies of justice” or “heroes of justice”, as far as I understand.]

Oba-chan to the rescue! If only she were as helpful in the games.

I wondered about this, so to Ace Attorney Wikia and Jisho.org I went. Mr Monkey’s Japanese name = Sarumage-don. Saru (猿) = monkey. Mage (髷) = topknot. Don (ドン) = the Italian/Spanish “don” honorific. Edgeworth’s Mrs Monkey mistake = Sarumage-kun. The English name sub track must have used Mr/Mrs Monkey, but I have no idea where Forest Imp/Blimp came from. ETA: Sarumane (猿真似) =”indiscriminate imitation; monkey see, monkey do; blind follower”. Japanese has a lot of pun-tential.

This just looks weird.

The greater the justice, the greater the wind! It’s this objection, by the way.

Probably never going to have a magical transformation sequence for Naruhodou (mahou shoujo Naruhodou? Narumahoudou?), so I’ll settle for this.

Don’t avert your eyes from the truth!

ああ、なるほど!

Conclusion:

  • They left out Sal Manella’s (forgot his Japanese name, that’s how little he showed up) testimony and the fact that he drove the van to move the body, and the implication that Himegami/Vasquez and the victim from 15 years ago had something going on.
  • Must have been in the interest of time. It did feel a bit rushed.
  • More wind in the courtroom, please.
  • ETA: Hey look what I saw posted on the /r/anime discussion thread.
